You want this stunning targa-roofed Ford GTX1


This Ford GTX1 went for auction at the weekend but didn’t meet its reserve. Now it’s up for private acquisition…

Looks like a cracker, doesn’t it? This, ladies and gents, is the targa-roofed Ford GTX1, one of four ‘SEMA Edition’ cars built specially for the annual Las Vegas show back in 2005.

It takes its inspiration from the original GT40, of which an open-top GT110 chassis  (otherwise known as the X1) was developed – initially by McLaren and then extensively modified by Kar Kraft – before going on to win the 12 Hours of Sebring in ‘66, piloted by none other than Ken Miles and Lloyd Ruby.

Fast-forward a few decades and Kip Ewing – engineering supervisor at the Ford Special Vehicle Team – dreamed of making a ‘second phase’ of the Ford GT, and after getting permission for a prototype he roped in coachbuilder Mark Gerisch of the Genaddi Design Group to bring the vision to life.

The GTX1 gets a low-restriction Borla exhaust, plus carbon fibre side skirts, rear diffuser and a redesigned rear clamshell. Meanwhile the 5.4-litre V8 was upgraded to produce 690bhp. Crikey.

Finished in Valencia Yellow and garnished with titanium stripes and a black leather interior, the GTX1 was shipped to a collector in the Middle East post-SEMA before eventually being brought back to the US.

Oh, and there are only 129.5 miles on the clock. So it’s basically brand new.

It went under the hammer with Broad Arrow Auctions last weekend, but having failed to meet its reserve it’s now available for private acquisition. As for the price, it’s probably a case of ‘if you have to ask, you can’t afford it.’

Still, looks mega doesn’t it?
